An 18 year old cat with low level but significant renal dysfunction and a mildly fractious disposition. She was given 2 mg/kg alfaxalone, 0.1 mg/kg midazolam, and 0.1 mg/kg hydromorphone combined and given IM in the epaxial musculature. There was no significant patient response to the initial IM injection. The first video is 5 to 6 minutes post IM injection; the effects were rapid. The second video is shortly after the first video, at the time of IV catheter placement. Patient blood pressures measured at the time of the first video were 175 mmHg SAP, 105 mmHg DAP, with a MAP of 130 mmHg and a heart rate of 160 bpm which was consistent with this patient's prior blood pressures during awake evaluations. The anesthetic event and recovery was smooth and uneventful. ETCO2 ranged from 30 to 45 mmHg. Inspired/expired sevoflurane ranged from 1.0 to 2.5% during the procedure. |
